Reliable Apple leaker Mr. White shared images on Twitter possibly showing the cables that will be used in the 2nd generation AirPods Pro.
The images released by Mr. White show two internal cables. The two cables on the right with the silver housing are the current generation AirPods Pro cables, while the two cables on the left with the black housing are reportedly from the next generation of AirPods Pro.
The cables with black housings on the left are two different sizes. Mr. White suggests that this is because Apple are planning to offer the 2nd generation AirPods Pro in two sizes. This has been widely reported by several different leakers and many have suggested that Apple is working on a model of AirPods that completely removes the stem from the design.
Additionally, Mr. White says that these new AirPods will continue to use the W2 chip. Strangely, the W2 isn’t used in any model of AirPods. The current AirPods Pro use the H1 chip, so it’s unknown if this is a typo or if Apple are planning on implementing the W2 chip from the Apple Watch Series 3 into the 2nd-generation AirPods Pro for better connectivity.
However, one of the images attached by Mr. White shows pieces of code for these AirPods Pro. Under the “chip” title, it clearly reads “w2b0”, which would suggest that Apple will be using the W2 chip in these AirPods.
Apple is expected to be launching the 2nd-generation AirPods Pro in 2021.
