Audio52, who have leaked images before of the third generation of AirPods, have shared more images of the upcoming product from Apple, including the first real-world look at the potential design.
These AirPods are not “AirPods Pro 2”, but the successor to the current 2nd generation AirPods that launched in March 2019. According to the leaked images, the third generation AirPods will look similar to the current AirPods Pro, but will have a slightly longer stem. The overall shape of the AirPods will remain the same.
Audio52 say that the third generation AirPods will retain the force-touch controls on the stem of the AirPods and may have Active Noise Cancellation. They also say that the AirPod tips will be customisable, just like the AirPods Pro.
As for the Wireless Charging Case, it will retain a very similar design to the current AirPods Pro Wireless Charging Case, but will be slightly smaller. The charging indicator will remain on the front of the case.
Audio52 attached the first real-world image of the new AirPods 3rd generation. They look almost identical to the AirPods Pro, where the only noticeable difference is the length of the stem.

Internally, Audio52 expects the new AirPods to use the Apple H2 chip, which is smaller in size and is more efficient. This will increase the battery life, performance, and connectivity speeds of the new AirPods.

Audio52 also says that the new AirPods will not be getting an increase in sound quality compared to the previous generations. The new AirPods will continue to use the same sound unit as the current AirPods Pro. The speaker size will be 11mm.
It’s currently unknown when Apple is planning to release this version of AirPods, but it’s been rumoured that the potential launch for this product will be sometime this year.
