watchOS 8 was officially introduced at WWDC21 today and it brings a slew of new features, including new Portrait Mode faces, Music app redesign, Contacts app, and more.
watchOS 8 is compatible with all the same devices as watchOS 7. This means that if you currently have watchOS 7 installed on your Apple Watch, you’ll be able to install watchOS 8 when it arrives this Fall.
You can find out what model Apple Watch you have by looking at the model name on the underside of your Apple Watch. The Series number is engraved into the glass above the heart rate/ECG/Blood Oxygen Sensors. If your Apple Watch’s model name is on the list below, you’ll be able to install watchOS 8 when it releases to the public.
Compatible Apple Watch Models:
- Apple Watch Series 6
- Apple Watch Series 5
- Apple Watch Series 4
- Apple Watch Series 3
- Apple Watch SE
Please note: watchOS 8 will require an iPhone 6s or later on iOS 15 to update your Apple Watch to watchOS 8.
