Apple have released iOS 13.5 to all iPhone and iPod touch devices capable of running iOS 13. iOS 13.5 introduced the COVID-19 Contact Tracing API to help governments develop COVID-19 apps.
What’s new in iOS 13.5:
- Introduces the COVID-19 Exposure Tracing API.
- Simplified unlock process for devices with Face ID when you are wearing a face mask
- Passcode field automatically presented after swiping up from the bottom of the Lock screen when you are wearing a face mask
- Also works when authenticating with the App Store, Apple Books, Apple Pay, iTunes and other apps that support signing in with Face ID
- Option to control automatic prominence on Group FaceTime calls so video tiles do not change size when a participant speaks
- Fixes an issue where users may see a black screen when trying to play streaming video from some websites
- Addresses an issue in the share sheet where suggestions and actions may not load
- Includes support for the Apple Watch 2020 Pride Faces.
iOS 13.5 is available now and is compatible with all of the same models currently running any other version of iOS 13. You can find out what model iPhone or iPod touch you have by navigating to Settings > General > About and you’ll see you iPhone model under “Model Name”.

You can install iOS 13.5 by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update and clicking the “Download and Install” button or by connecting your iPhone or iPod touch to a computer and installing the update via iTunes.
