16” MacBook Pro asset found in macOS Catalina

An asset found inside the macOS Catalina 10.15.1 betas gives us a closer look at the long-awaited 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro.

The icon, which was discovered by MacGeneration, shows the laptop in both silver and Space Grey colours. The icon shows a slightly thinner bezel going around the screen.

Rumours have been suggesting for a while that Apple have been working on a MacBook Pro that is 16”, has a slimmer bezel, a redesigned scissor mechanism for the keyboard, and that it would be released before the end of 2019.

In previous generations of the MacBook Pro, Apple used to use a keyboard with a scissor mechanism. However, in 2015, with the introduction of the 12” MacBook, Apple replaced the scissor mechanism keyboard with their newly-designed, ultra-thin Butterfly mechanisms keyboard. This keyboard faced much criticism for it’s lack of travel, thin design, and unreliability.

This 16” MacBook Pro is expected to be announced at an Apple Special Event taking place sometime this October. As we near the end of October, it was seeming as though Apple wouldn’t be hosting an event this month, but this new asset gives us hope that the event might actually be happening.
