Reliable Apple leaker Sonny Dickson (@) has leaked the dummy models for all the sizes of the upcoming iPhone 12.
As you can see in the pictures below, the dummy models utilise an iPad Pro-esque chassis, with flat edges and rounded corners. The sides of the iPhone are stainless steel, and the SIM card tray has been moved from the right side of the iPhone to underneath the volume switches on the left side on the 6.7” model.
There also seems to be an outline for what appears to be a magnetic connector on the side of the left side of the 6.7” iPhone 12 Pro Max. There is no confirmation as to what this connector is and what it is for. This is not the first time it has appeared in various leaks over the last few months. Many have suspected that this connector is for an Apple Pencil for the iPhone, although others have suspected that this connector is a internal component for 5G support.
Interestingly, there are three cameras on every model shown in the leak. Up until now, most leaks have suggested that only the Pro models (iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max) would be receiving the triple-camera array, and the 5.4” and 6.1” (non-Pro) models would be getting a two camera array similar to the iPhone 11. This leaks contrasts with these leaks, suggesting that all models, including the 5.4” model,. will be getting a triple camera array this year.
Another interesting thing about these dummy models is that none of the models have a cutout for the rumoured LiDAR sensor that was expected to arrive to the iPhone this year. Many leakers have speculated that the LiDAR sensor would be going above the middle lens on the rear camera housing, but in this leak, it shows a Quad LED flash unit instead.
Dickson says that these models are not final and the notch and the camera layout is not final, so this could mean that Apple have not finalised the position of the LiDAR sensor. Despite this, it’s almost a guarantee that this year’s iPhones will be getting a brand new design with flat edges and rounded corners. Many have suspected that this year’s iPhone models will be getting a smaller notch, although this has been disputed by many leakers.
